    807 is the small mag, ala 806. 808 is the big mag ala 802.

    IMHO, bigger is better here. YMMV.

    As OG said, the 807 is the smaller magnet version and will offer maybe 1.5dB less output. Keep in mind that these drivers usually have 10dB more output than the woofer and the lower sensitivity is rarely a problem. The standard 807 and 808 use the Symbiotic diaphragm (aluminum dome with Kapton surround). Yours may have been changed to the aluminum 'fram. The aluminum or Pascolite is usually recommended for home stereo application. All diaphragms are interchangeable on the 1" Altec drivers.
